Next Fortnite season is all about Star Wars – but there’s a catch

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 is diving head first into Star Wars, with themed locations, weapons, and maybe even Lightsabers – but don’t get too comfortable, because it won’t be here for long.

Fortnite and Star Wars go way back. Since their first crossover in 2019, Epic Games has turned the battle royale into a sci-fi playground, dropping in characters like Darth Vader, Han Solo, and Chewbacca.

The game has added Lightsabers as Mythic weapons, Force abilities, and even special modes like LEGO Fortnite Star Wars missions and Mos Eisley Cantina-themed music stages. If there’s a way to integrate Star Wars into Fortnite, Epic has probably tried it.

Now, according to Fortnite dataminers, the next season is fully embracing the Star Wars universe – but only for a month.

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 will be a short-lived galactic takeover

That’s right. While most seasons last around three months, Season 3 is reportedly going to be significantly shorter.

There are a few theories as to why. Maybe Epic has another big crossover planned and doesn’t want Star Wars overshadowing it. Maybe this is just a mid-chapter shake-up, similar to past mini-seasons.

Or, and this is the fun one, maybe Disney is flexing its influence after its early 2024 investment in Epic Games and wants to see how a hyper-focused Star Wars season performs before committing to something bigger.

Even with the shorter timeframe, the season will still bring new locations, loot, and mechanics. We’ll likely see Star Wars-inspired points of interest, fresh Mythic weapons, and, of course, Lightsabers.

Considering Fortnite has already introduced melee madness with the Typhoon Blade and Kneecapper, what’s a few more laser swords to turn every fight into a chaotic free-for-all?

While Fortnite is constantly evolving, its original Battle Royale mode is struggling. Fortnite OG, once a nostalgic hit, just hit an all-time low player count. Here’s hoping this Star Wars season injects enough energy to keep the main game from heading down the same path. May the Force (and Epic’s creativity) be with us.
