Epic has nerfed the Sub-Zero gloves in Fortnite after players discovered a movement exploit using the Mythic’s sliding ability.
The Season 2 update for Fortnite Chapter 6 added several new weapons to the experience, including Sub-Zero’s Kombat Kit. Modeled after the Mortal Kombat character’s gloves, the Kombat Kit is a melee weapon with two separate functions.
One use of the Mythic allows players to bombard enemies with a series of devastating punches. Meanwhile, the second function lets users perform Sub-Zero’s iconic Ice Slide maneuver for quick bursts of movement.
But one nerf will ensure the Ice Slide does not become too overpowered early in the second season.
Fortnite update nerfs Ice Slide move for Sub-Zero gloves
As reported by HYPEX, Epic Games has rolled out its first big weapon nerf of the season. The cooldown on the Sub-Zero Mythic’s sliding mechanic has been increased from 0.6 seconds to 1.2 seconds.
This change means players will now have to wait twice as long before activating the Ice Slide movement ability when wearing the Sub-Zero gloves.
Many users in the comments are confused by the update since there hasn’t been a stream of complaints about the Mythic.
One person wrote, “Why are they nerfing an item that’s practically unusable already? The slide is the only thing that made it alright.”
Someone else commented, “Interesting. They don’t seem OP to me. Never heard anyone complain about them.”
An exploit allowing players to abuse an infinite movement glitch may constitute the reason for the nerf, though. Content creators like TobyWanShinobi pointed out the exploit shortly after the Season 2 update went live and revealed that it didn’t even deplete stamina.
As such, it is possible Fortnite developers increased the cooldown on the Sub-Zero gloves to tackle this one specific glitch before things got too far out of hand.
