What is the rarest skin in Fortnite? Top 20 list in 2025

Rarest FN skins

Fortnite features a lot of different skins for players to show off their personal style in, with updates and live events adding familiar faces like Sabrina Carpenter to characters from Adventure Time and loads of Marvel skins, but some are much rarer than others.

Epic Games’ beloved Battle Royale, at this point in time, is well known in pop culture for the sheer volume of collabs and crossovers it’s had. And when these collaborations drop into the game, it usually results in new skins that players can buy (or occasionally unlock for free).

While some outfits are quite common to see around the island and appear a little more frequently, others are much more iconic — and a lot rarer to spot on the map. So if you’re curious about the 20 rarest Fortnite skins in history, we’ve got an up-to-date list of them all as of 2025 below.

Rarest skins in Fortnite

In late December of 2024, after a seven-year absence, the return of the previously very rare Renegade and Aerial Assault Trooper skins completely changed the lineup of which skins are considered to be rarest.

Following the return of these ‘OG’ skins, Epic has also brought back the rare Master Chief skins after its four years absence in the same month. This trend continued in April 2025, with the Psycho Bandit skin finally arriving back in the shop after five long years.

1. Reflex

Reflex Skin in Fortnite
Reflex was one of the first NVIDIA collab skins in the game.
  • Release date: November 29, 2018

The Reflex outfit could be obtained by redeeming a code for the GeForce Fortnite Bundle by purchasing an eligible NVIDIA GeForce graphics card around December 2018. However, the skin was accidentally released in the Item Shop for 1,200 V-Bucks in March 2019 and has since only appeared again twice.

With the accidental release, Epic issued an apology in the form of a free Stealth Reflex outfit which was released as part of the NVIDIA bundle in the following season. However, only those who had received Reflex by redeeming a code got the free skin, meaning it’s not been available to get anywhere for over 2,300 days.

2. Rogue Agent

Rogue Agent skin in Fortnite
Rogue Agent skin is regarded as the rarest Item Shop skin despite being in a starter pack.
  • Release date: March 27, 2018

Released in Chapter 1 Season 3, Rogue Agent was part of the Rogue Agent Starter Pack that appeared in the Item Shop for $4.99 in 2018. The starter pack was available there for 77 days in a row before it was never released again.

It was also the only starter pack outfit in Chapter 1 that players could purchase for real-world money instead of V-Bucks.

3. World Warrior

World Warrior skin Fortnite
The World Warrior skin was released during the first Fortnite World Cup.
  • Release date: July 26, 2019

First released during the first Fortnite World Cup, the extremely rare World Warrior skin has now been completely absent from the item store since July 2019.

Since this was the only time that a World Cup ever happened, the World Warrior skin did not return to the Item Shop, even during the recent FNCS tournaments.

Apart from this, the Fishstick skin also received a World Cup selectable style which is quite common and is seen more often in the Item Shop. Now players can only hope it returns to the shop in the future like they’re manifesting for yet another World Cup.

4. Shaman

Shaman has been available only five times.
  • Release date: March 31, 2019

Shaman — which hasn’t been seen for over 2,000 days at this point — is a skin that was originally released in Season 8 as part of the Moonbone Set. Despite appearing in five Item Shop rotations overall, it hasn’t actually been available since December 2019.

So if you see any players running the Shaman skin around the island, you’ll know that they’ve been invested in Epic’s Battle Royale for a good while, as they’ve got one of the rarest skins around.

5. Galaxy

Galaxy Skin in Fortnite Chapter One
The original Samsung Galaxy skin in Fortnite is extremely rare.
  • Release date: August 10, 2018

When Epic Games launched Fortnite for mobile, players with Samsung Galaxy devices were the first to be invited to test it out. This partnership continued for a while, with quite a few exclusive cosmetics tied to new Samsung products – but none have been more in demand than the epic Galaxy skin.

This elusive skin was only available for players who purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, but it was later replaced by the Glow skin in 2019 and there’s no way to get it anymore.

6. Black Knight

Fortnite Black Knight skin
Black Knight was available in Fortnite’s first-ever Battle Pass.
  • Release date: December 14, 2017

Black Knight was only available for players who maxed out the first-ever Battle Pass in Chapter 1 Season 2. This meant players had to not only purchase the Battle Pass but also reach Level 70, so the number of people who own this skin is ultimately very small.

That requirement might not be as high as the modern Battle Passes, which have 100 levels of cosmetics to work through, but this was back in 2017 when the player base was much smaller.

Despite the remixed skin version, Knight Conqueror, being introduced in Fortnite OG Season 2 on January 31 via the OG Battle Pass, Epic has never re-released the original outfit, solidifying its status as one of the rarest skins.

7. Double Helix

Fortnite Double Helix skin
Double Helix is an exclusive Nintendo Switch bundle skin.
  • Release date: October 5, 2018

Double Helix was another skin that fans could only get by purchasing an expensive device. This one was included with a limited-edition Nintendo Switch x Fortnite bundle, which also gave players a DLC code for matching cosmetics and 1,000 V-Bucks.

Aside from the high cost of purchasing the console, this bundle isn’t actually available to purchase from most retailers anymore, so if you do want it you’ll have to strike it lucky and find one available from a third-party seller – and it certainly won’t come cheap if you do.

8. Honor Guard

Fortnite Honor Guard skin
Honor Guard is a smartphone crossover skin.
  • Release date: February 25, 2019

If you want to get your hands on the Honor Guard skin, there’s some bad news, as it’s only available for those who purchase the Honor View 20 smartphone, making it one of the most expensive skins in Fortnite history.

It’s still available to get, but the incredibly high entry cost coupled with the fact that many people are loyal to their favorite brands like Apple and Samsung means the Honor Guard is automatically one of the rarest skins out there. Besides, we’ve never seen it in a Battle Royale match… have you?

9. Royale Bomber

Fortnite Royale Bomber skin
The Royale Bomber skin came with a PlayStation 4 DualSense bundle.
  • Release date: May 1, 2018

Another skin you’re unlikely to see is the Royale Bomber. The skin was first available to get as part of a PlayStation 4 x Fortnite bundle back in 2018, and later as part of a DualShock 4 controller bundle.

It’s still available to find if you look hard enough, but it definitely won’t come cheap, and arguably isn’t worth it anyway as it’s not a very interesting skin when compared to the best skins on offer in 2025.

10. Havoc & Sub Commander

These two Twitch-exclusive skins launched in Season 3.
  • Release date: February 28, 2018

The Havoc and Sub Commander skins were the first-ever Twitch Prime exclusive skins, released on April 27, 2018. Players could unlock them by linking their Amazon Prime account to Twitch.

Featuring bold, military-inspired designs, the Havoc and Sub Commander outfits from Twitch Prime Pack 1 became standout early exclusives. Despite Fortnite’s rapid growth, the smaller player base and limited exposure from Twitch streamers at the time make these skins rarer and more coveted by collectors today.

11. Blue Team Leader

Blue Team Leader Fortnite skin.
The Blue Team Leader skin is one of the most recognisable classic Outfits.
  • Release date: February 14, 2018

The Blue Team Leader is a PlayStation-exclusive skin and a reimagining of Fortnite’s iconic Recon Specialist Outfit from the very first season. Players could unlock it by redeeming the PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack 1 with an active PlayStation Plus subscription during Season 2, starting on February 14, 2018.

The skin features bold blue and white details, including a crisp white tank top and a signature blue beanie, making it a standout choice for console players.

12. Eon

Fortnite Eon Skin
Eon is one of the rarest bundle skins exclusive to Xbox users.
  • Release date: September 27, 2018

The Eon Skin was first available only as part of a promotional bundle for the Xbox One S console, and it came with a digital code that allowed users to redeem the skin and accompanying cosmetics. The bundle was a limited-time deal, which added to its desirability and rarity within the community.

The Eon bundle was made available exclusively to Xbox One S owners as of September 27, 2018. The bundle — which costs $249.99 and includes an Eon skin, the Xbox console, 2000 V-Bucks, a glider, and a pickaxe — is among the most expensive in Fortnite history.

Ever since then, Xbox has stopped running the promotion and scalpers are selling the skin codes online for over $1,000 each.

13. The Reaper

An image of The Reaper skin in Fortnite.
The Reaper is based on John Wick.
  • Release date: February 22, 2018

OG players will definitely remember The Reaper, who was the reward for maxing out the Chapter 1 Season 3 Battle Pass at Level 100. The skin has been a running joke in the community, as it was quite clearly based on Keanu Reeves’ character John Wick.

Then things got strange when, in 2019, Epic Games introduced an official John Wick skin. This means there are two almost identical skins in the Battle Royale, but while the John Wick skin has returned to the Item Shop on multiple occasions, The Reaper has never.

14. Sparkle Specialist

Sparkle Specialist Fortnite skin.
Sparkle Specialist brought along the disco fever early.
  • Release date: December 14, 2017

The Sparkle Specialist skin, released on December 14, 2017, was part of Fortnite’s Season 2 Battle Pass and unlocked at Tier 56. Unlike the harder-to-reach Reaper (Tier 100) from Season 3’s Pass, it was fairly accessible for players. Featuring a fun, disco-inspired design, Sparkle Specialist became iconic and is one of the few remaining OG Outfits that has not been re-released in the Item Shop.

15. Blue Squire & Royale Knight

Blue Squire and Royale Knight skins in Fortnite.
These Knight skins were a staple of the early Battle Royale days.
  • Release date: December 14, 2017

The Blue Squire (Tier 1) and Royale Knight (Tier 21) were also early fan favorites from Fortnite’s Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass, which released on December 14, 2017.

Featuring playful medieval knight designs in both male and female variants, they quickly became fan favorites. At the time, Fortnite had a smaller player base, and these skins were exclusive to the paid Battle Pass and have never been made available again, such as to purchase within the Item Shop.

16. Trailblazer

Trailblazer Fortnite skin from the second exclusive Twitch pack.
Trailblazer was exclusively available from Twitch Prime Pack 2.
  • Release date: May 9, 2018

The Trailblazer skin was the featured Oufit in Twitch’s second Prime Pack, available exclusively to Amazon Prime members who linked their accounts to Twitch. Released on May 9, 2018, players could claim it for a limited time.

With Fortnite’s player base rapidly growing since the first release three months prior—and fans being more aware of the promotion the second time around—more players were able to claim this skin. Despite this, Trailblazer remains one of the least common skins seen in matches, though not as rare as other exclusives.

17. Travis Scott

Travis Scott skin in Fortnite
  • Release date: April 22, 2020

Travis Scott’s skin is the rarest Icon Series Outfit to ever appear in Fortnite, and it’s not been seen in the store for over 1,880 days. The outfit was first released in 2020 ahead of the artist’s Astronomical in-game event in Chapter 2 Season 2.

While the event the skin was released in is one of the most played live events in the game’s history, the popularity and rarity of the artist’s cosmetic skin remain the same. Only to be seen in six Item Shop rotations, Travis Scott has not returned to the in-game shop since April 2020.

18. Astro Jack

An image of the Astro Jack skin in Fortnite.
  • Release date: April 22, 2020

Astro Jack is another Icon Series skin that was released as part of the Travis Scott set during Chapter 2 Season 2. Players could either get him in the Astronomical Bundle for 2,500 V-Bucks, or purchase separately for 2,000 V-Bucks.

He’s appeared in six Item Shop rotations so far, but hasn’t been available to buy in over 1,880 days — the same amount of time as the Travis Scott skin — meaning he’s been absent for over five years.

19. Rue

An image of Rue in Fortnite, one of the rarest skins in the game.
  • Release date: April 25, 2020

Rue is a rare outfit that was first made available in Chapter 2 Season 2 as part of the Lil’ Red Set. She was available to buy for 1,200 V-Bucks.

Her appearances have been quite scarce, however, as she’s only featured in two Item Shops, and was last available in May 2020.

20. Kratos

fortnite kratos
  • Release date: December 4, 2020

Kratos is now considered to be the rarest skin in the Gaming Legends series after Psycho Bandit returned to the Item Shop in April 2025 after just shy of a five year absence. First released in Chapter 2, Season 5, the God of War character was last seen on March 19, 2021 and has yet to return since.

Many fans thought that Epic would bring back this skin to commemorate the release of God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla in 2023, but that wasn’t the case.
