Inflated prices have flooded the in-game economy in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2, but players don’t mind considering the season-appropriate gold rush.
The new season of Fortnite is all about lawlessness, hence the Lawless subtitle. As such, various activities scattered around the map encourage players to break into bank vaults, hijack armored trucks, and steal from crime bosses.
Users can also boost their in-game riches by destroying gold rock clusters to retrieve the gold bars hidden within.
The extra dough should prove useful, too, since the prices of several items have gone up in vending machines and other shops.
Fortnite players argue inflation matches Season 2 theme
In the Fortnite subreddit, one user pointed out how much prices have increased in the battle royale’s vending machines.
A Shield Potion used to cost a mere 50 gold. In Chapter 6 Season 2, that same consumable item will now run players three times as much at 150 gold.
The community isn’t too concerned, though, since players can max out their earnings after just a few matches. And with all that extra gold floating around, it makes sense that Epic chose to tweak the economy to reflect the currency’s depreciating value.
One person in the comments said they’ve been having a hard time spending their money. “Gold drops from many more sources, I’m running out of stuff to spend it on.”
Another user explained, “The economy has been flooded with easy access to gold, so everything has gone up in price. Literally economics 101.”
Several other fans noted that the change is in line with this season’s Lawless motif. “Gold is abundant. Go rob a bank and you’ll have over 2k. The price of hiring NPCs went up to 800 from 250 as well. It’s the theme of the season lol.”
As always, though, Epic may continue to tweak different aspects of the experience as the season presses on. The developers have already issued one major adjustment by nerfing Sub-Zero’s gloves.
