Hatsune Miku fans are in for a treat as McDonald’s has confirmed a collab with the virtual singer is arriving soon.
McDonald’s has been crossing over with plenty of big-name franchises of late. Between the wildly popular Pokemon collab and Sonic 3 new menu items, anime fans, video game lovers, and more have had something to look forward to in the past year from McDonald’s.
Now, the chain has confirmed that a new Hatsune Miku collaboration is coming soon, and fans are overjoyed that the Vocaloid will be getting its own time to shine.
McDonald’s confirms Hatsune Miku crossover
On February 19, 2025, the official McDonald’s Japan X account (formerly Twitter) posted a cryptic message teasing the introduction of a new crossover.
The post was captioned, “This year’s Shaka Shaka Potato will feature this person.”
It included the outline of a character that fans instantly recognized as Hatsune Miku. The twin-tail hairstyle was an instant giveaway to many online users.
Just a day later, on February 20, 2025, McDonald’s confirmed online suspicions and confirmed that this new crossover was with Hatsune Miku. The outline is now filled out, and the new caption, Shaka Shaka Potato and Hatsune Miku, collab…Something happening on Miku Day…!?”
Miku Day is celebrated on March 9, 2025, and centers on everything revolving around the idea of appreciating the virtual idol. As such, expect this new collab launch on this day, as teased by McDonald’s in their announcement post.
It’s not surprising that McDonald’s has decided to announce this crossover now. After all, the Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing was released in Japan at the beginning of 2025 and will be released in the US on April 11, 2025.
Moreover, Fortnite also confirmed a collab with the character in January 2025.
What’s included in the McDonalds x Hatsune Miku collab?
The Hatsune Miku x McDonalds collab will introduce a new Shaka Shaka potato flavor. The chain often introduces unique flavours that customers can add to their fries for customers who want added spice or a unique twist.
In Australia, the Shaka Shaka fries include Vegemite seasoning, but a new Hatsune Miku-inspired flavour is on the way. While the exact item is yet to be revealed,
McDonald’s assured fans on X that it will not be “green onion-flavored.”
