In a game where slaying demons and collecting loot are supposed to be the focus, Diablo 4 players have found themselves getting creative. Now, they’re testing the limits of core game mechanics.
Sure, Diablo 4 offers endless seasonal activities to dive into, especially now with the March of the Goblins event in full swing.
This event floods Sanctuary with six new Goblin variants, each dropping treasure ranging from gold to rare items. Players can earn a hefty reputation by hunting down these Goblins and taking down the Goblin boss, Fancy Old Fedric.
It’s the perfect event for loot lovers looking to boost their stash. Add in the usual seasonal journeys and character resets, and you’d think there’s enough to keep players occupied. But even this hasn’t kept some from going beyond the game’s boundaries.
Diablo 4 Goblins are dropping so much gold players reached the cap
One dedicated player, tired of the usual grind, set out to break the game’s gold cap for fun.
After weeks of trading and selling, they reached the seemingly impossible: a massive 99.99 billion gold.
“I like testing things, limits and stuff,” they said. After some trial and error, including a final trade where they requested exactly 1.3 billion to hit the cap, the gold count stopped at 99,999,999,999. No more gold could be picked up. “It’s not hard accumulating gold, just takes time,” they explained.
For others, testing game mechanics isn’t just about the gold. “Limit testing is a lot of fun when you’ve kind of done everything else,” one player admitted. With their work in QA, they also test “physics and practicalities.” Others applauded the effort. One even joked, “Live long and prosper” in honor of the experiment.
I’m not quite sure what this player will spend all that gold on; perhaps they’ll save it, or perhaps it’ll be gone in a few overpriced market items. It’s clear that, while Diablo 4 thrives on seasonal events, some players are looking for new ways to engage with the game.
