Bungie has revealed what’s next for Destiny 2 for the second half of 2025 and beyond, beginning with a new summer expansion, The Edge of Fate.
Following the release of The Final Shape in June 2024, three Episodes – Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy – have filled the space between major, expansion-sized updates.
Until now, the only known information has been that Destiny 2’s next big content update was codenamed Frontiers and would be split into two expansions, Apollo and Behemoth. These are now known to be officially called The Edge of Fate and Renegades.
Here’s everything revealed for The Edge of Fate during Bungie’s May 6 reveal stream.
The Edge of Fate release date
The Edge of Fate releases on July 15, 2025, the same day that Episode Heresy concludes. Bungie confirmed the release date during its May 6 reveal stream.
The Edge of Fate reveal event date
Bungie’s reveal event for Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate takes place on May 6 at 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST / 5 PM BST. This is the same date Episode Heresy’s Rite of the Nine event will go live and, considering the iconography present in The Edge of Fate teaser, it’s likely the two are connected in some way.
Trailers & Teasers
Bungie released a short reveal teaser trailer for Edge of Fate on April 22. While it gives little away regarding gameplay, what’s presumably the player’s Guardian is seen piloting their ship through some sort of wormhole to reach a previously unexplored planet.
Whether this celestial body exists in our solar system or outside it remains to be seen, but the presence of symbols associated with The Nine at least confirms reaffirms that the mysterious group will be involved.

Two brief Edge of Fate teasers were released on May 2 and May 5, respectively. They show the Emissary or an individual similar in appearance drifting across the surface of an unknown planet. Check them out below.
Who are the Nine?
The short answer is nobody knows who, or what, the Nine are, however, the group have been referenced repeatedly as far back as the original Destiny. Xur, a vendor associated with Exotic wares, is known to be an associate of the collective, which operates out of Unknown Space.
Likewise, Trials of the Nine, a retired PvP event from vanilla Destiny 2, featured the Emissary, an Awoken with ties to the mysterious faction. How does this all tie into The Edge of Fate, you ask? Well, the expansion’s logo features symbols directly associated with the Nine.

Are Frontiers and The Edge of Fate the same?
As of writing, it’s not known with certainty if The Edge of Fate and Frontiers are one and the same. The likeliest scenario here is that the former is the official name of Apollo – a codename for one half of what Frontiers encompasses.
We’ll know for sure either way following Bungie’s May 6 reveal event. You can find more information on everything we know about Frontiers in our roadmap breakdown.
