Destiny 2 Heresy Act 3 will introduce a new limited-time event named Rite of the Nine, which will revive three classic dungeons.
Episode Heresy Act 2 officially goes live on Tuesday, March 11 in an update that promises to unleash new Legendary Weapons, The Court of the Blades activity, and several new Artifact Perks.
To prepare Guardians for the coming changes, Destiny 2 developers hosted a Heresy Act 2 live stream on YouTube.
In addition to providing a closer look at previously confirmed content like the aforementioned seasonal activity, Bungie also used the March 4 broadcast to unveil some of what fans can expect once Heresy Act 3 arrives in April.
Destiny 2 Heresy Act 3 will add Rite of the Nine event
During the stream, Senior Design Lead Rodney Thompson explained that Rite of the Nine was inspired by the positive reaction to contest modes for newer dungeons. The team decided to revisit past dungeons and increase the challenge to “contest mode levels.”
As a result, Heresy Act 3’s free limited-time event will add tweaked versions of Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep. One dungeon will be featured each week, and they’ll switch out on a “rolling basis.”
Rite of the Nine won’t just be for those after more intense gameplay. Thompson said that since some of these dungeons are already difficult, Bungie wanted the event to attract newcomers as well. This is where the event’s Explorer Mode will come into play.
(Topic begins at 51:00 mark.)
All in all, Guardians will get to experience the content at three different levels – Ultimatum mode for players wanting a greater challenge, Explorer mode for those interested in better learning the dungeons, and Eternity is aimed at Guardians seeking a “middle-of-the-road dungeon” experience.

The stream showcased some footage from Rite of the Nine, providing a glimpse at the Third Spire Social Space, last seen during the Trials of the Nine PvP event in Year 1.
While inside the space, players will be able to interact with a returning vendor known as The Emissary who will offer bounties, rewards, and quests.
Plus, fans can anticipate revamped versions of four weapons from each of the three featured dungeons, all boosted by tweaks, perks, and more that better coincide with the current state of the game.
