Shroud hits back at Counter-Strike community after he mocks iconic map returning to CS2

Shroud has faced backlash from the Counter-Strike community, which he has retorted to, after he brushed off the return of Cache from CS:GO into CS2.

After retiring from professional Counter-Strike in 2017 to pursue a streaming career, shroud hasn’t played much CS since. Instead, he had a short-lived Valorant pro stint with Sentinels in 2022, explored other titles like Marvel Rivals, and even launched his own FPS game, Spectre Divide, in 2024.

Despite moving on from CS, shroud’s fanbase still holds a strong connection to the classic shooter. So when the iconic Cache map was added to the Workshop with a graphical overhaul and a few tweaks on March 3, fans were eager to hear his thoughts.

At the very start of his Twitch stream, the first thing Shroud did was respond to a comment in his live chat mentioning it.

“‘Cache is out in CS2?,’ Nobody cares. Ha! Wow! Cache is out, oh my god, Counter-Strike 2,” he replied mockingly, pulling a face, and then carried on with his stream.

CS fans call out shroud for Cache comment

After the clip was posted to the CS subreddit titled: “Shroud’s reaction to Cache being released in CS2 – Maybe he is still upset about his game flopping,” lots of people in the community hit out against the former CS pro player.

“Valve is not writing a check, so nobody cares. Guy is the biggest sellout on Twitch, even our casters make fun of him,” one said.

“That’s what he gets for being an elitist. The guy built a massive following, then did multiple double birds to every opportunity and his community over the last 6 years. Any hate he gets is deserved because he did it to himself,” came another.

Another said, “He’s just mad he released a CS clone and it was dogs**t,” referring to Spectre Divide, which, while similar to CS, introduced creative features like letting players control two different characters and granting multiple lives.

Shroud hits back at CS2 community

However, seeing all the drama, shroud responded on X.

“Might be the easiest community to bait I love it, never change my counter strike friends,” he said in response to a post of the clip.

He also responded to two other posts of the clip, saying “it’s just too eaaaaasyyy,” and “I’M MR WORLDWIDE LETS GOOOO.”

A day after mocking Cache’s return, Shroud loaded up the map in CS2 and checked it out during his stream. “Yeah I don’t love it. I don’t love it. I was not expecting to not love it, but, this definitely needs some work for sure. I don’t hate it either though,” he said.

Shroud continued his stream playing the newly released Monster Hunter Wilds, while Marvel Rivals—his primary game since its December 2024 launch—has been featured in most of his previous streams.

Following the conclusion of his Fragathon charity stream, raising $1 million for charity in February, he also announced plans to start an esports organization, with a potential team in the Marvel shooter.
