MW2 is finally coming to Game Pass but it’s not the one CoD fans wanted

Modern Warfare 2 game pass

Microsoft is finally adding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to Xbox Game Pass, but it’s not the one that CoD fans wanted.

After months of going back and forth, Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard in October 2023.

Since then, the company has slowly added games from its newly-acquired brand onto Xbox Game Pass, including Black Ops 6, Modern Warfare 3, Diablo 4, and more.

However, Call of Duty fans have eagerly awaited for access to the franchise’s more iconic games, like the 2009 version of Modern Warfare 2. Xbox finally added MW2 to Game Pass on Tuesday, April 15, but it’s not the one everybody wanted.

Xbox adds the 2022 version of MW2 to Game Pass

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will launch on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on May 1, 2025. As soon as it’s available, fans will be able to access it via the cloud, console, and PC.

This will be the third CoD added to Game Pass, right beside Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6, and, of course, Warzone. While the latter is free to play no matter where you download it from, Xbox offers in-game rewards for those playing it through Game Pass.

Rumors of Xbox adding MW2 have swirled around social media for the last few months, but many believed that it would be the original 2009 version of the game.

CoD fans flocked to social media to share their thoughts after hearing the news, with many split on whether or not they’re excited it’s being added.

“Best COD in the last 5 years,” one user commented.

Another said: “Seriously? One of the most hated Cods in recent history and it’s coming to GP?”

MW2 isn’t the only title coming to Game Pass soon, either, as Microsoft is gearing fans up for the launch of GTA 6 by adding Grand Theft Auto 5 to the service yet again.
