The latest installment in Activision’s flagship Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 6, released on October 25, 2024, for consoles and PC, but just how successful has the subseries’ sixth entry been?
In 2025, FPS lovers are spoiled for choice, with Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends, Valorant, and even older versions of CoD all vying for attention in the crowded genre.
Black Ops 6 had an incredibly impressive launch, having more players at launch than any other Call of Duty title. However, it’s been steadily declining which has players worried. But just how many people are playing?
Black Ops 6 player count
On Steam, Call of Duty’s 24-hour peak between December 29-30 was 103,356. There has been a steady decline from launch after it peaked with 315,000 players on November 3 according to SteamDB.
Specific player numbers for Black Ops 6 across all platforms aren’t available yet, with Activision not publicly sharing that information. However, there are some statistics we can look at to get an idea of how popular the latest Call of Duty game is.

Keep in mind that this figure isn’t solely an indication of Black Ops 6’s player count, as it covers multiple games, including Warzone, MW3, and MW2. Also, SteamDB’s data only takes Steam players into account and doesn’t include console or Battle.net users at all.
However, looking at the six-month average before BO6’s release helps paint a clearer picture. Between May and October 2024, the total remained largely static at around 100k concurrent players. This figure only spiked twice during that period, once in May and then again in August for Black Ops 6’s beta.
Black Ops 6 was responsible for the huge uptick in Call of Duty players, but those numbers have now dropped down to pre-BO6 levels.
The series has always been popular on Xbox and PlayStation, so expect the peak across all three platforms to be as much as 2 million, with Steam likely to account for only a fraction of that total. In other words, Black Ops 6 is an incredibly popular game and one of the most successful Call of Duty titles to date.
