The iconic AUG returns in Black Ops 6 as the ABR A1 Assault Rifle, and it’s absolutely deadly when you run the best loadout.
Black Ops 6 Season 5 shook up the meta in a number of ways. Not only did it bring plenty of buffs and nerfs to the existing lineup of guns, but it also threw some brand-new weapons into the mix for players to try out.
Among these is the ABR A1, also known as the AUG from Black Ops Cold War. This burst fire rifle took over both multiplayer and Warzone the first time around, and it’s looking to do the same again.
So, here’s the best ABR A1 loadout to run, complete with all the attachments and Perks you need for the meta build.
Meta ABR A1 build in BO6
- Optic: Iron Sight
- Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
- Barrel: Reinforced Barrel
- Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
- Magazine: Extended Magazine 1

Kicking off the best ABR A1 loadout is Iron Sights, which removes the default Optic and brings back the iconic sights, which offer better visibility and accuracy. However, you can easily stick to the original red dot and spend the extra attachment on a Stock or a Comb.
Then, the Monolithic Suppressor buffs the bullet velocity and damage range, making it much more effective at a distance. This is followed by the Reinforced Barrel and Vertical Foregrip combination, which removes most of the recoil to make the AUG laser-accurate.
Last up is Extended Magazine 1, which allows you to pick off multiple enemies before having to take a break from the action to reload.
Best Perks & Equipment
- Perk 1: Ninja
- Perk 2: Hunter’s Instinct
- Perk 3: Double Time
- Perk 4: Gung-Ho
- Lethal: Frag
- Tactical: Flashbang
- Field Upgrade: Trophy System
- Wildcard: Perk Greed

To make the most of the ABR A1, you’ll need to run the right Perks, and we recommend starting with the Perk Greed Wildcard to run an additional pick.
Ninja is essential in multiplayer, especially in modes like Search and Destroy, as it makes your footsteps completely silent. Hunter’s Instinct is also a strong pick, pointing you in the direction of the next enemy after getting a kill.
Then, Double Time increases the length of your Tactical Sprint, making it much easier to get around the map. Finally, use the extra slot to get Gung-Ho, which unlocks the Enforcer Specialist, granting extra health regen and movement after a kill.
When it comes to Equipment, the classic Frag is perfect for securing quick eliminations, and the Flashbang blinds enemies before you take them out. Meanwhile, a Trophy System is clutch in objective-based modes, as it blocks explosives while you defend a point.
Is the ABR A1 meta in Black Ops 6?
The ABR A1 is very strong in Black Ops 6, but it’s not quite the meta option right now. While it can definitely compete and you won’t be at a disadvantage by using it, ARs like the AMAX or Kilo 141 can outgun it at longer distances.
One of the main reasons for this is its burst fire rate, which, despite being faster than most other burst guns, does hurt the TTK a little. That being said, if you’re sticking to mid-range, this is still a fantastic option, especially if you’re accurate with your headshots.
Pros and cons
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Low recoil | Burst fire rate |
High damage | Costs attachment to use iron sights |
Great at mid-range | Struggles at longer distances |
How to unlock
You can unlock the ABR A1 by completing Page 6 of the Season 5 Battle Pass. You’ll need to use Tokens to unlock all of the other rewards on the page before spending a final Token to get your hands on the new Assault Rifle.
Luckily, this is one of the free tiers, so you can grab it even if you don’t buy the full BP. If you run out of time and don’t unlock it in time, don’t worry, it’ll be added to the Armory once Season 5 is over.
Best alternatives
If the ABR A1 isn’t cutting it for you, you can’t go wrong with the easy-to-use Cypher 091 – another powerful option for multiplayer. The FFAR 1 is also strong, if you want something that excels at closer ranges.
