Battlefield 6 players roast “tiny” maps that feel like Call of Duty

Empire State map in Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 players are calling out the maps in the second weekend of the beta, arguing the new addition is too small again and plays like a CoD map.

The Battlefield 6 Open Beta has been a record-breaking success, after becoming the most-played BF game ever on Steam and even overtaking Call of Duty’s peak player count. However, with the second weekend underway, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing, as many players are criticizing the reduced player count in Rush.

One of the biggest complaints from the first weekend was the lack of truly big maps, which have become Battlefield’s signature over the years. Many had hoped that the Empire State, which was added in Weekend Two, would be exactly that, but after actually trying it out, they were left disappointed.

BF6 players slam “horrible” Empire State map

“I think it sucks,” said JoeZocktGames on Reddit. “I think this map is not a Battlefield map, it doesn’t play very well and the layout also doesn’t make much sense.”

“It’s f***ing horrible,” another reply read.

This feeling of not being a Battlefield map is one that plenty of fans shared, with many comparing it to the more compact 6v6 maps in Call of Duty.

“Feels like a COD map honestly, fits right in with open weapon classes lol, the old school BF feeling is gone now,” said one reply, while another added: “It’s clearly designed to be played on Domination or TDM (For COD players). It’s so freaking tiny to play with 64 players on Conquest.”

While the maps on offer so far don’t exactly fit the three-lane design seen in Call of Duty, players are arguing that they’re built for “running and gunning” and quick respawns, reducing the amount of time between each fight. Popular streamer TheTacticalBrit echoed the criticism and revealed that he gave this exact feedback to the devs in an early test.

“One of my earliest pieces of feedback for Battlefield 6 behind closed doors was that ‘downtime in Battlefield is not a dirty word, and that hunting a certain time to engagement will hurt the franchise,’ he said in an X post, before adding:

“I know larger maps are coming, Firestorm, Mirak Valley, New Sobek City, Manhattan Bridge. But it feels like a big shame to not have at least one of them in the Beta.”

We’ll have to wait until Battlefield 6 launches on October 10 to get a full picture of the map sizes, but players are hoping that there’s a lot more big maps in the full game. While the returning Firestorm battle royale will take place on a huge battleground, it doesn’t scratch the same itch as teams of 32 fighting for control.
