How to use photo mode in Baldur’s Gate 3

Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3

Photo mode has finally been introduced to Baldur’s Gate 3 in Patch 8, giving players the opportunity to take and share images of their favorite characters and moments.

When it first arrived in 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 took the world by storm thanks to its rich characters, meaningful choices, and deep world. But despite being packed to the brim with content and features, there were certain elements missing, like crossplay.

Among the absences was a fully-fledged photo mode, but after years of requests, it’s arrived in Patch 8 — the game’s final major update. So, here’s how to use the feature in BG3.

BG3 photo mode explained

Photo mode can be triggered by pressing F9 on PC or by clicking both analogue sticks at the same time on PlayStation and Xbox. Alternatively, there’s a photo icon by the minimap that you can click with the mouse.

This can be done at virtually any moment, whether you’re out exploring the map, in the middle of combat, or even watching a cinematic cutscene.

Once you enter photo mode, you’re greeted with a host of different options to create the perfect snap. This includes different facial expressions and poses for your characters, as well as filters and gradients for the image itself.

However, there is one small caveat, as you won’t be able to change the position of characters if you’re in the middle of a cutscene. But, if you’re out in the wild, you can move them around and adjust the camera angle freely.

There are also over 300 stickers that can be added to give the picture some personality, and modders are able to create even more.

Once everything is exactly how you want it, use your platform’s screenshot feature to capture the image. On PC, this will likely be the “Print Screen” button on your keyboard or CTRL + Shift + S, on console it will be the screenshot button on your controller.
